Our most important pollinators are in decline. Native Cavity nesting bees are particularly vulnerable because of the decline in habitat. We can help them by giving them nesting space.
The workshop will start off with a talk about the bees and their plight and how to attract and care for them. Then participants will build a Bee Hotel out of wood, using phragmites, an invasive reed growing along roadways, bundling them to fill the box. We will discuss the best places to mount the Bee Hotel to help our pollinators.
Fee is $35.00 for adults/seniors and $10 for children. Fee includes instruction, loan of tools and all material necessary to make your a bee hotel, and take home with you, as well as entrance into Canada Blooms and the National Home Show.
A draw will be held for a special bee pupa storage box to protect the pupae from predators over the winter
Workshop will be held at the Mark’s Choice Gardening Workshop Experience Area G26 (Hall G). Stop by Salon 107 for directions to the Workshop Area about 1/2 hour before your session.
Bee Hotels can be left in the Festival Office (Salon 107) while participants enjoy visiting Canada Blooms.
