Vertical Landscape Architects Inc. is a full-service firm specializing in vegetated systems on roofs and walls. We integrate innovative yet proven green roof and green wall technologies with traditional landscape architecture for unsurpassed place making potential. Our unique service is ideal for urban environments where lush vegetation is highly desirable but not possible with traditional methods due to limited garden space or interior floor area.

What was the Most Memorable Garden Your Company Designed or Built:

Early in my landscape design career, I was given the opportunity to design and arrange for the installation of a woodland back garden on Russell Hill Road in Toronto. The prospect was daunting as my clients showed me their large back garden that sloped steeply up and away from the terrace.  They wanted all the ‘bells and whistles’: covered gazebo, upper deck, lower terrace, a woodland walk and lush plantings under a forest like setting. I enthusiastically created multiple concepts, revisions and options and final detailed planting plans, all drawn and redrawn by hand.  It was arduous but exciting. 
However, when it came time to install the project, my first choice for contractor wouldn’t touch the project because of notable issues with structural retainment and access.
Fortunately I discussed my project with Adam of DA Gracey and Associates whom I new from my Weall and Cullen days.  He jumped right in without any hesitation and wowed my clients with his expertise and willingness to take on this challenge.
The end result was a gorgeous flowing garden, exceptionally well constructed with amazing workmanship and wonderful movement in the riverbed stream and magical, textural plantings. I learned, in those early days, that if you work as a team with dedicated, enthusiastic professionals you can get anything done and finish with extremely happy clients.

D. A. Gracey & Associates Ltd. has been in business for 19 years and has participated in 13 Canada Blooms shows since the first one in 1996.
Over the 19 years the company has retained and nurtured many talented employees.
In those 19 years of steady growth, D. A Gracey & Associates Ltd has also : Designed and installed over 700 residential projects across the GTA

What was the Most Memorable Garden Your Company Designed or Built:

I think every member of our team has their own most memorable garden. However, for me it has to be our Dunington Grub Award-winning Mulmur Residence. As well as building the log home, our landscape design and construction included a tennis court, a pool with infinity edge, in-pool bar, beach entry and a waterfall that cascaded down a series of steps from the hot tub. Added to that was a large flagstone terrace, outdoor kitchen, fire pit, drystone walls, and a double waterfall into the existing pond. It was a wonderful project to work on, and we get to see it on a regular basis, as it matures and evolves with the homeowners and their family.

Elite Landscaping

Who We are:
A family operated business which has been servicing the Industry for over 15 years specializing in natural stone, wood working, water features, large tree and shrub planting.

What was the Most Memorable Garden Your Company Designed or Built:
3 years ago we started our first ever project in Muskoka.  The home-Owners did not want any maintenance on the grounds of their cottage, so our team created terraced gardens and patio’s which needed footing’s that were pinned to the granite.  There was a large slope down towards the lake, so we took every precaution to ensure that all our work would not collapse and slide towards the water.   Despite all the obstacles, we completed the project in 3 stages over 3 summers and in the end the Home-Owners were delighted and pleased.

Genoscape Inc.

Who We are:
Genoscape Inc. is a Markham, Ontario based full service design/build firm that specializes in the design and installation of landscape projects that include water features and/or rainwater harvesting systems.

What was the Most Memorable Garden Your Company Designed or Built:
Our most memorable garden consisted of a 150’ stream with 15’ of vertical drop.  There were 2    ecosystem ponds tied in to the stream located at different elevations.  The stream would disappear into an underground rainwater-harvesting reservoir by means of a negative edge skimmer coming from the lower pond.    Natural stone pathways and steps would weave through the stream and cross it at 4 different locations using natural stone and wood bridges.

M &S Architectural Ltd., is a design build landscape construction firm specializing in residential landscapes and pool landscapes.  M &S Architectrural also works with prominent landscape architects on projects working with clients for complete project management.  M &S Architectural offers complete turnkey landscapes handling all your landscape needs, “from idea to creation”.  M&S was established in 1988 and is celebrating its 25th year anniverary this year.

What was the Most Memorable Garden Your Company Designed or Built:
Of any of the projects with custom design and unique features there are numerous that come to mind.  One that stands out is one we have just completed in 2012 where access to back yard had no machine access and had only stair access from the drive to the back yard then stairs to upper back yard.  We created a terraced back yard that required the use a 300 ton crane to take materials over the house and an ingenious ramp system to move products out of the yard.  Logistics was the challenge.  The crew rose to the challenge and met the challenge.  Logistics of any project raise challenges that require time, resources and specialized equipment to accomplish

What was the Most Memorable Garden Your Company Designed or Built:
Our most challenging and rewarding garden was our volunteer garden we built for The Starlight Foundation at the Sick Kids Hospital with a great group of volunteers from Landscape Ontario member companies. We transformed a 9th floor rooftop in to a quiet, peaceful oasis for patients and families to enjoy as a retreat from the daily drudgery of hospital life. Shade sails, comforting couches, soothing planting, and bubbles tubes allows a sense of escape, at least for the moment

In 1999 David Goodwin started his own paving company known as Near North Pavers. In 2004 He made a choice to move South to Toronto. While he continued to pave he also utilized skills  learned at an early age of granite stone work under the tutallage of Fernando Mazza a stone mason and bricklayer. What was the Most Memorable Garden Your Company Designed or Built:
Our most challenging gardens , by far, are the ones we have created for Canada Blooms.  One of the main reason we love building feature gardens is the opportunity it affords us to explore and test the limits of our creativity and our skills. 
Our 2012 Canada Blooms garden was a whopping 3600 sq ft and included a 22 ft long and 6 ft tall dry stack wall.  In order to accomplish this in the scant 5 days of set up it was necessary for us to "train" over the winter.  Each week we built and demolished sections of wall.  After a month of practice we had improved our efficiency enough to feel confident that we would be able to complete the wall in four days. It took us three days to complete the wall and we were all very proud of the accomplishment. 
This year we have partnered with Tourism Ireland and Royal Irish tours.  Check out our blog for details on this years challenge.

What was the Most Memorable Garden Your Company Designed or Built:
 Sheridan Nurseries’ most challenging projects stretch 100 years of innovation and inspiration. From the monuments of Toronto’s University Avenue and Niagara’s Oakes Garden Theatre to hundreds of parks and estates, as well as in the backyards of residents across the GTA today—it is hard to name just one significant garden, they have all contributed to an extraordinary first century.
